Participant setup

This page is for participants, and for organizers who explain the setup to them. Everything a participant needs is on their dashboard in the Web app.

Getting in

Participants receive one of these from the organizers:

  • a setup link: open it once and choose a password;
  • an access link or its QR code: open it once to sign in without a password; or
  • an invitation to register.

Links work only once. If one has expired, ask the organizers for a new one.

The dashboard

After signing in, the dashboard shows the participant's callsign, role and group for the active event, followed by the setup steps. If someone takes part in several events, they pick the event at the top.

TAK onlyTAK app, map data
With MeshtasticMeshtastic radio, TAK app, map data

Meshtastic radio

  1. Flash the firmware version shown on the card. Open flasher opens the Meshtastic web flasher.
  2. Confirm that the radio runs at least the shown version.
  3. Download the settings file, or scan its QR code with the phone that sets up the radio.
  4. Import the file in the Meshtastic app.

The file sets the radio's name, the event's channels and its radio settings. It contains channel keys: anyone with the file can read and send on the event's channels, so do not pass it on.

TAK app

Connect ATAK or iTAK as described in TAK apps.

Map data

The dashboard lists the participant's packages. Load them in the TAK app from the OpenMeshTak TAK server, or download them on the dashboard and import the ZIP in the TAK app. Packages marked on the dashboard reach a connected TAK app by themselves. A downloaded ZIP does not update: download it again when the organizers publish a new revision.

Key holders

Members who hold the key for a secret channel see a handout card. Open a handout only when the channel should be shared, for example at the briefing.
